Hi. So what have I been up to recently? Well, mostly looking after young children for the last two years, so of course I'm itching to get back into the scene. To that end I've got all kinds of irons in the fire. One of these is my first adult novel, "Voice of Reason", a romantic comedy pitched somewhere between Helen Fielding and Kingsley Amis (if you can imagine such a thing!) with a main character, Harry, who's a serial womaniser with a surprising secret. You can |
read a first sample chapter of it HERE, though please take note of the warning on the home page concerning language and material. This book should be completed within two months. Another one on the go is a novel for eight to twelves, "Narrow Escape", which is about a group of children fleeing from a crumbling city, run by gangs and bereft of electricity and water supplies. Their parents have lost the plot and are mostly just pretending life is going on as normal. Their teacher, together with an old tramp who used to be a war hero, is trying to teach them survival techniques. They decide to use a half-finished narrowboat to make their escape, but there are many people who want to stop them. Again, read a sample chapter HERE. Then there is my attempt to get into writing for TV and other media. I am hearing interested noises for a six-part comedy drama. Can you imagine 'interested noises'? Look around to make sure you're alone and then try making some now (very therapeutic). Apart from all this work stuff I still do the kiddy thing (I've got three boys, all lovely), I do a fair bit of music at home, go to the gym, read up on and try to practise Taoism, manage a very cool pub at weekends and generally behave like a madman. It's a good life! I live at the foot of Solsbury Hill (the one from the Peter Gabriel song) near Bath, so plenty of opportunity to get out and run when it all gets too much. |
